London’s first Young People Laureate is 26 Year Old Nigerian, Caleb Oluwafemi, an English Teacher, Poet, Filmmaker, Photographer and Mosh Pit Organiser.

Caleb Oluwafemi has been named the first young people’s Laureate for London. A poet laureate is a poet officially appointed by a government or conferring institution, often expected to compose poems for special events and occasions.

Caleb, from Peckham, South-East London, was selected for the role by a panel which consisted of the Poetry Society and the Forward Arts Foundation. The position will be held for a period of one year, whereby he will set out to give Londoners between the age of 13 and 25, a platform to voice their concerns and experiences through poetry.
