We all have busy lives, where we are juggling work, businesses, a social life and family. But don’t miss out on you. At the centre of it all, is you and if you don’t function, everything else could collapse.
We give 3 tips on how to make time for yourself:
Switch Off & Rest – The Oxford Dictionary defines rest as ‘ceasing work or movement in order to relax, sleep, or recover strength’. This therefore is not when you reply to emails in your bed watching your favourite programme. Turn work-mode off and put your mind and body to rest.
Learn to say no – You cannot do everything. You must quickly learn and accept this and stop feeling guilty that you can’t. We currently live in a culture where we are expected to be a part of everything, overscheduling and over committing ourselves to it all. Start to prioritise what matters the most to you, what you enjoy, what you actually can do and must do (i.e. your job/business) and say no to commitments that do not fall into any of these categories.
Schedule yourself in – you will never make time for yourself in your busy schedule unless you put time aside to do something for yourself and actually stick to it. Every day, or a couple of times a week, make sure to do things that you enjoy; either by yourself or with family and friends. We live in a society where phrases such as ‘You have the same amount of hours in the day as Beyoncé’ is almost an indication that we should be doing something at all times in order to be successful. People in powerful positions such as artists and successful business owners however are able to have time for themselves, not only because they have a team who is able to carry out the many projects they may be involved in, but because they are in control of their time. For those of us who are currently unable to, scheduling time for yourself is just as important as trying to get as much things done in a day.
Learn to put yourself first.
